Item price and the full purchase cost are not always the same.
Total cost and shipping before checkout
Shipping cost affects product choice. Show a relevant estimate or explain clearly what remains to be calculated rather than hiding costs until the final step.
Research context: Baymard · Shipping costs on product pages ↗
Show assumptions behind shipping costs. The lab uses 49 kr; digital support products create no physical shipment.
Try the pattern
Task and expected result
- 01
In the lab: switch from shipping to pickup. Shipping and total should change together.
- 02
Change quantity and verify unit price × quantity plus shipping matches the total.
- 03
Open a real test item: it should be clear that it is not physically shipped.
- 04
Change quantity to 3: shipping totals 349 kr and pickup 300 kr in the lab.
- 05
Read gift-card details: manual redemption must be clear before opening real checkout.
How to investigate value
Measure confirmed, deduplicated outcomes per eligible checkout start. Define paid orders and accepted credit orders separately.
Watch for side effects
Payment errors, duplicate orders, incorrect totals, unclear arrival dates and discount cost. A pay click is only an attempt.
This is a proposed investigation, not a measured result. Choose one hypothesis and define the audience before testing.
