Returning to the top makes shoppers relocate what they just evaluated.
Incremental loading and returning to the product list
Preserve filters, sorting and position when returning from a product. Incremental loading needs a recognizable end.
Research context: Google Search Central · Pagination and incremental loading ↗
Small collections need no load-more control. Larger catalogs must restore loaded pages as well as position.
Try the pattern
Task and expected result
- 01
Filter, open a product and use Back to the list.
- 02
Check that the selected variant and filter chips retain context.
- 03
For a large catalog, test restoration of the last loaded page.
How to investigate value
Observe whether participants find an item meeting every need, not just how many cards they click. For measurement: relevant selections per eligible search/list visitor.
Watch for side effects
Zero results, false variant matches, lost list context and slow filters. More product-page visits are not necessarily better.
This is a proposed investigation, not a measured result. Choose one hypothesis and define the audience before testing.
