Choosing a product also depends on what happens if it does not fit. A footer-only link makes shoppers search unnecessarily.
Returns and policies beside product selection
Provide a short, understandable route to return and delivery policies while the shopper evaluates the product.
Research context: Baymard · Product-page return information ↗
Show relevant policies beside the purchase choice with a link to full details. Apparel, food, custom goods and digital content need their own accurate explanations.
Try the pattern
Task and expected result
- 01
Find Policies in the visible product information and open the full example explanation there.
- 02
Check that the lab policy is labeled illustrative and identifies costs and procedure as questions the merchant must answer.
- 03
Open and close details with the keyboard. Keep the selected product.
- 04
Compare with real gift-card information: do not promise physical returns for a digital purchase.
How to investigate value
Ask shoppers to explain their variant choice and fit. Later measure confirmed purchases per eligible product visitor, with return reasons as follow-up.
Watch for side effects
Wrong sizes, unknown details shown as facts, mismatched expectations and product-related support/returns.
This is a proposed investigation, not a measured result. Choose one hypothesis and define the audience before testing.
